About

Born in Hong Kong and having grown up in the United States, Oscar has spent a lifetime bridging cultures. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a helicopter pilot, he carried forward the discipline and patience that military service demands — virtues that find their quiet parallel in the art of bonsai. Having been trained in Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics with his PhD, his path from Hong Kong to New York, now residing in Shenzhen, China — through finance, mathematics, and investment leadership — has given him a rare vantage point on bonsai's journey as well: an art spourn in Asia, refined through centuries, and now cherished across the world. Living in southern China, just hours from where the earliest penjing traditions took root, he feels that connection daily. A lifetime BCI member since 2023, Oscar finds his deepest fulfillment in sharing this passion with his wife Vivian and young daughter Viola — nurturing small trees together and, with them, the hope that this timeless art will grow through another generation.
