Chen Chang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pearl River Steel Pipe Group and Honorary Doctor, Master of Chinese Bonsai Art, BCI International Bonsai Master, leading expert in China’s welded pipe industry, and member of the Welded Pipe Academic Committee of the Rolling Steel Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals, Serves as President of the International Bonsai Association (BCI) and Chair of the China Regional Committee; Chief Representative of the Guangdong Office of the International Bonsai Association (USA); Dean of the Baowen Bonsai Artisan Industry Academy; 8th and and 9th Council Chair of the Flower, Bonsai, and Rock Appreciation Branch of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture; Vice Chairman of the Steel Pipe Branch of the China Steel Structure Association; Vice Chairman of the Cold-Formed Steel Branch of the China Steel Structure Association; and Honorary President of the Guangzhou Calligraphy Association. He has been honored with numerous awards, including “Outstanding Private Science and Technology Entrepreneur of China,” “Builder of the Cause of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,” “China Invention and Entrepreneurship Award,” “China Invention Gold Award,” “International Invention Gold Award,” “National Outstanding Entrepreneur,” “Outstanding Science and Technology Worker of China’s Steel Industry,” “First Prize in Science and Technology of Guangdong Province,” “Guangzhou Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award,” “Top Ten Economic Figures in Guangdong,” “National Model Worker,” the National May 1st Labor Medal, the “Outstanding Chinese of the World Award,” and “Meritorious Entrepreneur of China’s Township Enterprises Over 30 Years,” as well as the Commemorative Medal for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, jointly awarded by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission. Mr. Chen Chang has a deep appreciation for poetry and prose, excels in calligraphy, and possesses a profound literary background. He presented the paper “Tracing the Origins of Trunk-Cutting and Branch-Retention Techniques in Lingnan Bonsai” at the Sixth China Bonsai Academic Symposium and published “The Three-Tiered Crown of the Tree King” in the West Shu Landscape Architecture Journal, both of which garnered significant attention within the bonsai community; In his spare time, he compiled his bonsai creation techniques and insights into a book, publishing the monograph *Prosperous Scenery: Chen Chang’s Bonsai Art*, which has received widespread acclaim and praise within the industry. Through meticulous research and ingenious design, guided by the principles of “Never resting until the tree astonishes” and “Integrating theory with practice,” Mr. Chen Chang founded the Baowen Garden Bonsai Park, which houses over 10,000 bonsai trees. Believing that nurturing people comes before nurturing trees, he trained his care team in the integrated arts of poetry, calligraphy, painting, and bonsai cultivation. The team possesses a solid theoretical foundation, advanced creative concepts, meticulous care practices, and strong writing skills. The garden’s works have garnered numerous honors: Grand Champion at the 1st and 2nd “China Cup” National Bonsai Competitions; the top six gold medalists (1st–6th place) at the 10th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Bonsai Art Expo; Grand Champion at the 2015 International Bonsai Convention and Asia-Pacific Bonsai and Rock Appreciation Conference; the "Tree King" title at the 9th China Bonsai Exhibition and the 1st International Bonsai Association (BCI) China Regional Bonsai Exhibition; Grand Champion and Best Work Award at the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Bonsai International Competition; Gold Medal at the 10th China Bonsai Exhibition in 2020, Special Gold Medal at the 2022 National Premium Bonsai Exhibition, and Top Three Gold Medals at the Annual Main Exhibition of the 2023 International Bonsai Convention, among others.
