Bouganvillea spectabilis

Name of the tree : Bougenvillea spectabilis
Style : Semi Cascade
Total heigth (inc. Pot) : 40 cm
Size of the Pot : Hexagonal Dia. 35 cm, heigth 13 cm
Origin of the Pot : China (Chinese footed ceramic/clay pot)

This tree was obtained in early 1994 and being trained for about 3 years to the final result as seen today.

It was potted about a year ago. The basic reason to use a hexagonal pot instead of round is to avoid a static and uniform overal image since the canopy of the tree is paralely round itself.

I purposely choose the pot with smaller diameter than the canopy to avoid the symetrical effect, yet the shape of the pot with some relieves is giving a "heavier" image to balance the bigger canopy. The relatively shallow pot is considered to the semi cascade tree style as well as the heigth of the tree. A shallower pot will be "too light" and a higher pot is only suitable if the tree is cascading.

The character of the tree with flowers looks very feminine, this is also the reason to use the terracotta color of the pot to match the whole feminity but still nature in color. Eventhough there are some relieves on the pot, the color is nature and neutral; not dominating the presentation and the eye-catching centre point is still to the beatiful flowering Bonsai with perfect optical balance in whole performance.
