2000 Ben Oki International Design Award Entry
Tamarix by Hank Sugimoto of Torrance, California, USA.
The Tamarix was collected from Nevada about three years ago.

This was a twisted branch from the collected tree. It was soaked
in water for a week and then
planted in a mixture of potting soil and agricultural pumice.
Once it began
developing, it had to be wired about three times a year to bring
it to its present appearance.
