2000 Ben Oki International Design Award Entry

Phempis Acidula (Santigi) by
Robert Steven of Jakarta, Indonesia

The tree is a raft on rock. The species is one of the most popular
in Indonesia because of the unique texture of the trunk as well
as the small leaves. The tree was collected in 1995 from a rocky hill
along the coast of Sulawesi Island. It took about 3 years to attain the balance
of the branches and 4 years to get the canopy lines. It was potted about
a year ago.
